Educational Public Programs for june 2018

Let's Move The Environmental Education Center has partnered with the national Let's Move! initiative to fight childhood obesity by encouraging participation in outdoor activities and promoting healthy eating. Those programs are listed with the Let's Move! logo by the program titles.

The Green Team
(Ages 12-15)
Is natural science a subject you find interesting? Do you like the outdoors? Is the Great Swamp a place you like to visit? If so join us at the Environmental Education Center and contribute your talents to our fun and educational projects and special events. Pre-registration is required.

Leonard J. Buck Garden – A Somerset County Park Commission Gem! - New program
(Adult)
Join us for a formal tour of Somerset County Park Commission's own Leonard J. Buck Garden. Known as one of the premier rock gardens in the eastern United States this 13-acre alpine and woodland garden is situated in a wooded stream valley. The garden contains a series of planted rock outcroppings, planting beds, a fern garden, and glimmering ponds and streams. Tucked among the rocks are rare and exotic rock garden plants. The wooded trails connecting the outcroppings are lined with beautiful wild flowers that have flourished and multiplied through the years. Please wear good walking shoes and you may want to bring a camera.
$25 per adult/$20 per senior

Shopping at Well-Sweep
(Adult)
Come with us to Well-Sweep Herb Farm to shop for your 2018 garden. Well-Sweep has a large variety of plants from herbs to natives and lots of special varieties that are not seen at the large nurseries. A Naturalist will assist you in navigating through their spectacular garden beds. You will soon be on your way to the garden of your dreams. From sun to shade, wet to dry, animal resistant plants, you name it, Well-Sweep has it. Take the day off for shopping in the morning and go home to plant in the afternoon.
Suggested Donation: Plants (valued at $25) for the gardens at the Environmental Education Center.

Waterfall Trekking
(Adult)
Travel to the Poconos and explore various hiking trails that will lead you to hidden waterfalls. Photograph, admire, and wade your way in for a swim! Enjoy the day in the woods and in the water! Bring lunch and money for ice cream.

Tot Trek Let's Move
(Ages infant-5 with parent) Calling all tots! Leave the stroller behind and join a Naturalist for a walk on the trails of Lord Stirling Park. Explore the natural world around you by using all of your senses! You will be surprised to find out how much fun you can have outside! Pre-registration is required.

Hoooooowl! Join our pack for a fun, five-day nature program full of outdoor exploration, live animals, hands-on activities, games, crafts, and water play! This program will take place rain or shine. Pack a snack and come prepared to be outside! Dress for a mess – this is mud pie week! We'll be exploring soils, mud pie creations, and rocks.

Xtreme Adventure: Stand Up Paddling Let's Move
(Ages 13-16)
Travel with a Naturalist to Spruce Run Reservoir for a proper lesson and guided excursion. Take in the scenic views while learning all you can about this fast-growing sport. Stay cool by spending the whole day paddling, splashing, and falling into the water!

Exhibits are open 9am-4:30pm daily.
Registration is accepted 9am-4:30pm daily.
The building is closed on Holidays.
Trails are open dawn to dusk daily but closed on Deer Management days as scheduled.
